Seeing our first woman mayor elected is a sign that we have passed the great gender divide. We lost and we gained this time. All of which was positive. Our mayor in my opinion, should take Hillary's place in the National Elections, as she doesn't carry tons of dirty political baggage and corrupt dealings i.e. Whitewater and she doesn't commit to and then break political promises i.e "health care for everyone". It isn't the Mayor's fault we don't have a new bridge. She is very much concerned with the dilemma and has said that she doesn't like to have a city that is divided. She doesn't make promises no matter how much we want her to commit to a final solution, and that is what I admire about her the most. I do believe if she was the only person in charge that the issue would be resolved by now. We don't know all that she knows and we can't force her to do anything. All we can do is keep asking for her help in resolving the issue. At the last election we decided that several people weren't representing us the way we wished to be represented. This election will be no different, we will ultimately have the say so again. If we want a new bridge we will have to make a referendum ourselves and then we can have the bridge. We won't be telling our council what we want to make them do, as much as what is really important to us. They are concerned about the problem we all face. When they start seeing that the business taxes are diminishing as a direct result of not having a bridge maybe they will see things a little different. Our petition was a start, now let's finish what we started with the referendum. Our businesses are suffering, and people are being inconvenienced more and more with the "raping of the country" by the gas companies. I personally changed my driving habits last year and saved over 4,500 dollars. I know that many people have left the area because of the bridge. I see huge developments being put on hold. Suffolk knows this and don't think that doesn't sit in the back of their minds. If someone was to run for office with the promise "I will see to it that the KHB is rebuilt...", I would consider that person full of broken promises. Now if all seven of the council members said the same, then we would have something to hold them to... Remember it was not Suffolk's fault that they received a broken KHB. It was VDOT'S fault. Don't blame Suffolk. Don't blame Suffolk for not coming up with a solution, as they have to deal with this issue, but in addition to all of the other issues that they inherited as a direct result of a sorry city manager who should have never been given the job to start with. When we start taking strong actions to solve this problem, we will get strong results. I don't think that all of the whining and complaining will do anything more than make us more disgruntled. There is nothing more sickening than to listen to people whine and complain and then do nothing about the situation and blame others. Passing the blame game is over with. I want to see actions and participation on behalf of all parties, including each of the inconvenienced citizens who have suffered more that I have. I know if they all pack city hall that something will change besides the seating capacity. Now if the referendum is voted down when election time comes, then we will understand what it truly means to have our hands tied. Until then we tie our own hands until we can produce the referendum. I am very proud of the way the people who have tried to save the KHB. They are trying to work with the City Council instead of being forceful and rude, as we understand that this present situation is not something they created. However should we all pull together for the referendum, they will not mistake our meekness for weakness.Until then my business will continue to loose money as a direct result of the closing of the KHB, and furthermore, the same people being inconvenienced will all have no relief. I am not an eternal optimist or eternal pessimist either but I do believe the majority of our city council understands our dilemma and I do feel that all of our efforts to fix the situation at hand will pay off.I haven't given up faith yet. Let's not make the KHB an issue, lets make it a referendum. I will promise you my unwavering support. If the city council denies our petition for a referendum, then I will see to it that every spare moment of my time will be dedicated to it that all of the citizens vote for new council members who will not deprive us of our rights.Going door to door can be a positive experience when you have nothing to lose. I am tired of losing, is anyone else....? Let's pull together and we all will win. In my heart I know that the city council will back us. In my heart I know that the KHB issue will be resolved in a small amount of time, and not as people tell me "after my life is over". I am not the one who decides what is important for our city, that is why I vote with faith for our elected officials. No matter how bad things seem to get, I know that things are sometimes SEEMINGLY HOPELESS, but the keyword is seemingly. Today as everyday I am more willing to put more my own time and own money in my business because I know that I will see this issue resolved. Money isn't everything and the most important things in life aren't things. As a direct result of the closing of the KHB I have met friends from the other side of the water who really know what it means to lose and to keep fighting for what is just and right. We all know what is wrong, but are we going to rollover and blame the city of Suffolk. I hope not. God grant us the courage to change the things we can and the wisdom to know the difference, and the ability for us to make a difference in this world we share. For all of the efforts that Linda and Robert Wright have given towards the KHB issue, I could never repay them for their valuable time spent, however I can appreciate their efforts by showing some appreciation and furthermore giving some of the consideration they have unselfishly given. It would truly break my heart to see the City of Suffolk quash what they have done for us, and my faith and intuition tells me that they won't.No man is an island and now it is time for us to show Linda and Robert Wright how much more we are willing to compliment all of their hard work, by completing their hard work and efforts.Let's not put anyone down to make ourselves look better, let's make ourselves look better so that no one can put us down.My closest friends tell me if I don't stand for something, I will fall for anything. I am willing to stand and can do more with my capabilities than most people dream of, and this issue about the KHB really challenges me. But not matter how hard I try I can't solve the KHB problem alone, but only be part of the solution. Together all of us can accomplish more than just this small issue. Should anyone need my help, please feel free to ask.

http://savethekhb.com/

Third Post

Saturday, July 7, 2007
Third Post

Kings Highway Bridge issue alive again.

Humm. did a little searching on google, and found some neat picture

Third Post

Humm. did a little searching on google, and found some neat pictures. We are devoting our energies to DRIVER DAYS or also known as the Driver Village Fall Festival.
Your patience is greatly appreciated while I work our website. Currently, I am working on pages that aren't properly linked as I don't have the appropriate corresponding files. It seems that my SQL database file is not compatible with this web server. Unfortunately recently when I have tried to work on our pages, I have encountered numerous problems similar to the one I mentioned above.
For someone who can do just about anything with a computer, it is frustrating to have do deal with server errors, etc. We are just about there now... :O)
Please promptly report any errors to me. Unfortunately because of spammers searching our pages for email addresses to spam, we will use forms to relay information. As a matter of fact I can delete email addresses at will to discourage such behavior.
Seems we are making some progress. I have added three more businesses, and am beginning to work on our picturegallery . I have added some of the pictures, 150 to the gallery .... many, many more will follow. I have quite a few of the fire department volunteers as well.
I can't wait to share with our web page viewers what we have done as an organization and community to help support our Volunteer Fire Department. The last two years have we have raised over 32,000 dollars for the fire department. We love you guys appreciate the hard work, and training you put in to save lives and property. What an honor it has been for us to put on Driver Days to benefit you.

We have installed a portal gateway called PHP-Nuke which I hope will be helpful. Also I have installed a bulletin board as well. Let's see how it goes.

Our sites mission is to emphasize and promote our businesses, churches and civic groups and include their corresponding pages on our links page. A fellow association member gave me the idea of toying with a place to post information as well I think the geeks call it a Blog. Through that means of communication, I believe we can have one of the most informative and civic minded websites in the world, yet at the same time be a hometown website. I hope you enjoy the work that we have created for your enjoyment and possibly even a shopping excursion or two or a posted civic event. We hope to post all civic events, church services, as well as Driver Days and by doing so promote community involvement.
In the last ten years or so our community has grown from 27 homes to almost 300. Now that is a large number of families to bring together.
Having our own website will enable us to communicate with one another as a business association as well as have individual email address. As I acquire the appropriate permissions to post them on our contact page, I will.
I have lots of responsibilities as I try to manage my family's business. I am a fixer upper at heart and maybe will show you a picture or two of my undertakings to renovate the Driver Train Station but only after ALL of the pictures given to me have been posted. I have lots of pictures to share as a matter of fact about 400 to post to our site, in addition to reorganizing the ones already on the site. That should keep me busy. Our pages are a little sparse but in time will grow. The best part about our website is that we won't have to pay market rates for web page creations, as of now it is entirely free. We do pay for the domain hosting and domain name.
Driver Village greatly appreciates the original design by Revovision and would like to expand it a little bit more and probably eventually replace it. I decided that the work they put in considering the historic background of our community was definitely worth keeping around for a while. I have changed the backgrounds some and tinkered here and there but I do like what they did for us. If any of you need a quality web designer, look no further, just click on the link on each page that links to their site.
As far as me designing a web page for anyone else, don't even ask, I have way to much on my plate to even attempt another site. Oh yeah :O) I must have time to sail the Chesapeake Bay this summer too...
Please feel free to send us relevant information that you would like us to share with the by clicking here

If you are the person who sent me pictures of the Driver Fire Department with their new truck, I haven't forgotten you either.
