On Monday April 28, 2008 our town Driver Virginia WAS Struck By a Tornado... approximately 4:25 pm. The relief efforts have been a godsend and we wish to thank all of the hundreds and possibly thousand of volunteers who cleaned and cleaned until all of the debris was gone and businesses who so generously donated food, water, building materials and so much more. We are in the rebuilding process now. There has been much healing through all of the destruction and devastation. I was lucky and able to save the only person who was trapped in the Variety Store rubble. Leroy like many of the other two hundred injured was very lucky. Imagine the devastation of the biggest 3 areas hit and absolutely no loss of life. Chance, Fate, God, and even luck, we all are grateful to you as you spared all lives... Miracle is a suitable word in this case. As time goes by, we joke about the tornado because we can, as life wasn't lost. I can't believe the stories I have heard about the tornado, it all seems unreal.. extraordinary, a miracle. As soon as I can work the bugs out in the Bulletin Board and Blog, we will be able to share our miraculous stories.
Our community businesses are open with the exception of the Harmony House and the Variety store, however these owners are there at the old places much of the time and the reconstruction has begun. April 28, 2008 will always be remembered as a very extraordinary day indeed. I call the Tornado, Black Monday, the Black Monday Twister. The sky turned black and once again after years of being decommissioned, the train came though Driver, or at least it sounded like it. The sounds we heard were like an onrushing FREIGHT TRAIN, at least until the ears started popping.
Thanks Driver Fire Department no lives were lost as you responded immediately!
Thanks to all for the Massive help response ...
